A fun Ukrainian masquerade tradition during the celebration of the New Year on the Julian calendar: girl is disguised as a female character – St. Vasyl, a young man disguisedas a folk female character – Malanka, and another man disguised as a goat. This tradition dates back to pre-Christian time.
